arundhathi: (while the music lasts)
You can learn a lot about someone by the music they listen to. So here's the game! Hit shuffle on your iPod/iTunes or mp3 player and write down the first 25 songs. No cheating or skipping songs that are shameful.

1. Hombre - M.I.A.
2. Small Town - Morcheeba
3. It Was Supposed to Be So Easy - The Streets
4. In The City - The Jam
5. Sound of Silver - LCD Soundsystem
6. Vehicles & Animals - Athlete
7. A-Punk - Vampire Weekend
8. Woodstock - Joni Mitchell
the rest )

Representative? Maybe. My current listening is probably a lot more pop-heavy than this. And 2 songs from the same album seems a bit skewed given there are nearly 5,500 songs in my iTunes library. Probably much less embarrassing than it could be, if I was the sort of person to be embarrassed by the things I like.

Ask me for my top 5 anything: fandoms, ice cream flavours, cartoon moments, women in my fandoms, OTPs, ideal holiday destinations, goals for the future, celebrity crushes, books I wish would be made into movies, love songs, anything.

And if you like, I'll ask you a top 5 in the comments!

I have so much stuff I need to do this evening. Help me procrastinate.

"'But then,' thought Alice. 'shall I never get any older than I am now? That'll be a comfort, one way--never to be an old woman--but then--always to have lessons to learn!'" - Lewis Carroll, Alice's Adventures in Wonderland.

MiddleLittle!Sis is 21 today. I am not quite sure how that happened. I was there when she was born. I used to collect her from nursery.

100 Movies, 100 Quotes, 100 Numbers - A parody of all those AFI top 100 movie things, which counts down from 100 to 1 using quotes from films. I might have posted this one before, but it's a fun bit of nostalgia and if you have time to waste you can spend a while trying to name all the films. If not, there's a list of them here.

BigHugeLabs is a treasure trove of nifty tools, mostly for doing things with photos, although my favourite thing on there - Ideas - is not specifically photo related. Type in a word and, as they say, receive a page chock-full of inspiration, sourced from Flickr, Twitter, Delicious, Etsy and the like. Not just a site, but a source of endless hours of wasted time, which is what the internet is really for, after all.

I got up with The Naughtiest Niece this morning. We made breakfast (and then ate cake) and watched Toy Story and did some drawing and sticking. And then it was time for me to stop pretending I was 3 again and do some work instead. It was awesome while it lasted.

Pies & Prejudice: In Search of the North by Stuart Maconie
This is the book of my people, and a charming and funny love letter to the England that starts way, way north of Watford Gap.

'My name is Stuart Maconie, and I am from the North Of England. Some time ago, I was standing in my kitchen, rustling up a Sunday brunch for some very hungover, very Northern mates who were 'down' for the weekend. One of them was helping me out and, recipe book in hand, asked "where are the sun-dried tomatoes?"

"They're behind the cappuccino maker," I replied.

Silence fell. We slowly met each other's gaze. We did not say anything. We did not need to. Each read the other's unspoken thought: we had become those kinds of people, the kind of people who had sun-dried tomatoes and cappuccino makers, the kind of people who did Sunday brunch. In other words: southerners.

Other stuff I am reading/have read/want to read is on my goodreads.
